
59 Former Kernels Invited to MLB Spring Training

Cedar Rapids, IA - Fifty-nine former Kernels have received invites to Major League Spring Training either as members of a club's 40-man Roster or as a Non-Roster Invitee. Included are members of the 2012 Kernels: catcher Zach Wright, infielders Alex Yarbrough, Eric Stamets and Kaleb Cowart; and pitcher Donn Roach (SD).
Pitchers and catchers have already reported to Spring Training with full squads reporting on Friday, February 15. The Minnesota Twins begin their slate of Spring Training games on Saturday, February 23 at Baltimore with the first game at Hammonds Stadium set for Sunday, February 24 vs. Tampa Bay.
Thirty-five former Kernels head to MLB Spring Training as members of their club's 40-man roster. This list includes: catchers Hank Conger and Jeff Mathis (MIA); infielders Alexi Casilla (BAL), Mike Napoli (BOS), Alberto Callaspo, Andrew Romine, Erick Aybar, Howie Kendrick, Luis Jimenez, Jean Segura (MIL), Alexi Amarista (SD), and Sean Rodriguez (TB); outfielders Mark Trumbo, Mike Trout, Peter Bourjos and Travis Witherspoon; and pitchers Patrick Corbin (ARI), Tyler Skaggs (ARI), Andrew Taylor, Garrett Richards, Jordan Walden (ATL), Darren O'Day (BAL), Miguel Gonzalez (BAL), John Lackey (BOS), Tyler Chatwood (COL), Ervin Santana (KC), Will Smith (KC), Bobby Cassevah, David Carpenter, Kevin Jepsen, Michael Kohn, Ryan Brasier, Johnny Hellweg (MIL), Fernando Rodriguez (OAK), and Joel Peralta (TB).
In addition to the five players from the 2012 Kernels, 19 former Kernels were asked to MLB Spring Training as non-roster players. They are: catchers Carlos Ramirez and Bobby Wilson (NYY); infielders Brandon Wood (KC), Efren Navarro, Luis Rodriguez, Dallas McPherson (LAD); outfielders Matt Young and Randal Grichuk; and pitchers Barrett Browning (STL), Warner Madrigal (ARI), Trevor Bell (DET), A.J. Schugel, Kevin Johnson, Sean O'Sullivan (SD), Mason Tobin (SF), Ramon Ortiz (TOR), Rich Thompson (TOR), and David Herndon (NYY).
The list of 40-man and non-roster invitees was compiled from published MLB rosters and is subject to change.
