Tucson Padres News Release
The Las Vegas 51s loaded the bases with none out in a tied bottom of the ninth inning Monday when Manny Mayorson hit an infield single to score Adam Loewen with the winning run. The 51s pounded 19 hits in their 9-8 win over the Padres, splitting the four game series, and also splitting the 16 games the two division rivals played this season. It was the second comeback win by Las Vegas in the series; Tucson led Monday by two runs at the seventh inning stretch.
The Padres hit two home runs in the fifth inning to break a 2-2 tie. Anthony Rizzo led off the inning with his 17th home run of the PCL season and Bobby Kielty hit a two-run home run with two outs, his first long ball with Tucson this season. Rizzo went 4-for-5 in the game and Everth Cabrera was 2-for-4 atop the Padres lineup. Eight of the nine Padres position players had at least one hit in the loss.
San Diego Padres reliever Joe Thatcher pitched a scoreless eighth inning, allowing one Las Vegas hit. Thatcher has now appeared in three games with Tucson, pitching three innings, allowing one run while striking out four. The Padres are now 49-53, in third place, 11.5 games behind first place Sacramento.
Next Game: Tuesday, 7:00 pm vs. Colorado Springs - Tucson RHP Samuel Deduno (3-2, 3.64) vs. Colorado Springs RHP Alan Johnson (3-6, 7.03). Two-for-One ticket special at the box office or by calling (520) 434-1338.
