Port Huron Prowlers News Release

Port Huron - The Prowlers and Watertown Wolves met on the ice for the first time this season tonight. Watertown was soaring high coming into tonight's game, having already locked up a playoff spot and will likely finish with the one seed for the playoffs and get the crucial first-round bye. As for the Prowlers are currently in 6th place; with a distance between them and the Thunder, the playoffs aren't in doubt. For the Prowlers veteran net-minder, Cory Simons returned to the lineup tonight after an extended time on IR.

As for the Wolves, they went with Brendan Colgan in net.

MVP front runner Justin MacDonald created early offense from behind the net when he set Kyle Heitzner just 23 seconds into the game. For the remainder of the period, the goalies shined as Simons was a brick wall the rest of the period. Colgan stopped all 15 Prowler shots in the period. The Prowlers came inches away from tying the game at the end of the period when Justin Brausen fired a shot off the post, just missing the net. At the end of one, Watertown led 1-0.

The 2nd period was very similar to the first, with both goalies playing very well and Justin MacDonald creating offense for Watertown. Halfway through the 2nd period, MacDonald rifled a puck past Simons to put the Wolves up 2-0. The Prowlers could not solve the mystery that is Brendan Colgan as he turned away every Prowler shot opportunity in the period.

Both goalies were incredible tonight, and for Port Huron, you couldn't ask for much more from a returning Simons who made thirty saves on 32 shots. Unfortunately for the Prowlers, Brennan Colgan was unstoppable tonight, posting a 41 save shutout and stifling the Prowlers' offense. Justin MacDonald would add an empty-net goal to give the Wolves a 3-0 win. The Prowlers and Wolves will be back in action tomorrow night in Watertown.
