January 21, 2016 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Madison Capitols News Release
Madison, WI - The Madison Capitols saw representation from a trio of prospects this week as NHL Central Scouting released its 2016 midterm rankings ahead of the 2016 NHL Draft.
Among those ranked is River Falls, Wis. native Billy Jerry (ranked #189), who is currently skating with St. Thomas Academy in Minnesota. The 6-foot-3 inch forward has been filling up the scoresheet with 15 goals and 14 assists through just 18 games this season. Jerry made a brief cameo with the Capitols late in 2014-15, skating in three games with the club.
Joining Jerry in the top 200 North American skaters' rankings is Kevin O'Neil (Cohoes, N.Y.), who came in at ranking #179. The 5-foot-9 forward was a Capitols selection in the 11th round of Phase II of the USHL Draft this past May. The Albany Academy forward has put together a strong senior season, stringing together 10 goals and 19 assists in 18 games thus far in 2015-16. This comes one season after he scored 55 points in just 30 games in his junior season.
The Capitols' representation is not limited to just North American players, though, as Belarusian Dmitri Buinitsky (Vitebsk, Belarus) is rated #107 among International skaters. The 18-year-old forward, who will join the Caps in the coming weeks, spent 22 games playing professionally in the Kontinental Hockey League for Dynamo Minsk this season. He also scored two goals while representing his native Belarus in the World Junior Championships in Finland this past winter.
The Capitols end their season-long seven-game homestand next Friday and Saturday, Jan. 22-23, against the U.S. NTDP (U17's) for 7:05 p.m. puck drops at the Alliant Energy Center. Friday is another WJJO $1 Beer Night, while Saturday is Outdoors Night, presented by Cabela's and 101.5 WIBA-FM. The first 500 fans in attendance on Jan. 23 will receive specialty orange Capitols' hats, courtesy of Cabela's.
