GENEVA, ILLINOIS - Chicago Steel left wing Brandon Duhaime (Parkland, Fla.) has committed to play for Providence College (Hockey East) in Providence, R.I. Duhaime, 18, is one of 17 players on the Steel's active roster committed to an NCAA Division I hockey program.
The 6-1, 190-pound forward has tallied a near point-per-game pace in his rookie season, scoring 10 goals and adding 20 assists in 35 games this season. Duhaime, a left-shot forward, registered at least one point in six consecutive games following the league's holiday break.
"The entire Chicago Steel organization is thrilled for Brandon in making his decision to attend and play hockey at Providence College," said Steel Head Coach Dan Muse. "Brandon earned this opportunity through his hard work, character and commitment to growth on and off the ice. Through these qualities he has made big strides in his development and he is a great example of the type of player and person we want to have in this organization."
Duhaime joins Steel forward Lucas Michaud (University of Maine) as current Steel players committed to play Division I hockey in the Hockey East Association. Duhaime plans on joining the Friars next year to play for Providence coach Nate Leaman.
"There was a lot of thought in this process for me," said Duhaime. "I had a lot of conversations with my family members. We found that Providence is the best fit for me, academically and hockey-wise. I think their style of play correlates very well with mine."
Duhaime, a left-shot forward, moved across the continent last season to play for the Merritt Centennials in the British Columbia Hockey League. Now playing USHL hockey in Chicagoland, with his college days planned for Rhode Island, the well-traveled Florida native is enjoying the ride.
"I've been around the map," said Duhaime. "It's been a whirlwind."
The Steel are back in action at Fox Valley Ice Arena as they take on the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders Saturday, Jan. 23 at 7 p.m. This game will feature "Stone Cold Steel Night," a tribute to professional wrestling. Tickets are available at the box office inside Fox Valley Ice Arena, by phone at 855-51-STEEL or online at ChicagoSteelHockeyTeam.com.
