2018 Tiger-Cats Team Awards Announced

The Canadian Football League announced Wednesday the Hamilton Tiger-Cats team winners for the 2018 CFL Awards:

MOST OUTSTANDING PLAYER: QB Jeremiah Masoli

Masoli, 30, has started all 17 games for the Tiger-Cats so far this season at quarterback. To date, the 5-10, 228-pound quarterback has completed 378 of 572 pass attempts (66.1%) for 5,209 yards, 28 passing touchdowns and 18 interceptions. The San Francisco, California native has also registered 63 carries for 473 yards and two rushing touchdowns. Through Week 20, Masoli ranks first in the CFL in quarterback rating (81.0), second in in passing yards (5,209), third in passing touchdowns (28) and fourth in pass efficiency (98.3).

This season, Masoli has recorded 300 or more passing yards in 12 games, setting a new club record as well as tying him for fourth-most such games in a single season in league history. Among all-time Ticats records in a single season, so far in 2018 Masoli ranks fourth in passing touchdowns, third in passing yards and third in pass completions. Additionally, the University of Mississippi product moved into seventh in passing yards, eighth in pass attempts and completions, and ninth in passing touchdowns in Ticats history.

Masoli was named a CFL Top Performer five times this season, including a CFL Top Performer of the Week for Weeks 2, 3 and 12, as well as a CFL Top Performer of the Month for June and September.

MOST OUTSTANDING DEFENSIVE PLAYER: LB Larry Dean*

Dean, 30, has started all 17 games for the Tiger-Cats so far this season at middle linebacker. To date, the 6-0, 226-pound linebacker has registered 105 defensive tackles, one special teams tackle, one tackle for loss, two interceptions, three pass knockdowns and one fumble recovery. One of his interceptions came September 15 versus Calgary, which he returned for 60 yards and his first-career CFL touchdown.

In Week 20, Dean became the fourth player in Ticats history to record 100 defensive tackles in a season. With 105 defensive tackles, the Tifton, Georgia native currently ranks fourth in defensive tackles in a single season in club history. He also ranks second in the CFL in defensive tackles through Week 20.

MOST OUTSTANDING CANADIAN: DT Ted Laurent

Laurent, 30, has started 16 games for the Tiger-Cats so far this season at defensive tackle. To date, the 6-1, 299-pound defensive tackle has registered 20 defensive tackles, three tackles for loss, eight quarterback sacks, one forced fumble and one pass knockdown. The Powder Springs, Georgia native currently ranks ninth in quarterback sacks in Tiger-Cats history. He also ranks tied for seventh in the CFL in quarterback sacks through Week 20.

MOST OUTSTANDING OFFENSIVE LINEMAN: OL Brandon Revenberg

Revenberg, 25, has started all 17 games for the Tiger-Cats so far this season at left guard. To date, the 6-4, 301-pound offensive lineman is part of a unit that has allowed the third-fewest sacks (35) in the CFL this season. Through three CFL seasons, the durable Essex, Ontario native has yet to miss a game.

MOST OUTSTANDING SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER: DB Courtney Stephen*

Stephen, 29, has played all 17 games for the Tiger-Cats so far this season as a backup safety and on special teams. To date, the 6-1, 199-pound safety has registered 17 special teams tackles, three defensive tackles and one forced fumble. The Brampton, Ontario native ranks tied for eighth in the CFL in special teams tackles through Week 20.

MOST OUTSTANDING ROOKIE: OL Darius Ciraco*

Ciraco, 22, has started all 17 games for the Tiger-Cats so far this season at right guard. To date, the 6-4, 292-pound offensive lineman, selected sixth overall in the 2018 CFL Draft, is the only rookie to start every game this season for the Tiger-Cats. The Burlington, Ontario native is part of a unit that has registered the second-most yards per carry (5.6) and third-most total rushing yards (1,828) in the CFL this season.

The award recipients were selected by voting members of the Football Reporters of Canada (FRC) and CFL head coaches.

In this first ballot, FRC representatives from each CFL city as well as the respective head coach submitted votes for six categories. Voters were asked to select players from their local CFL club who, through the excellence of their on-field performances, best represent the awards' titles - Most Outstanding Player, Most Outstanding Canadian Player, Most Outstanding Defensive Player, Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman, Most Outstanding Rookie, and Most Outstanding Special Teams Player.
