2017 WCL Schedule Released, Sweets to Open at Home

October 24, 2016 - West Coast League (WCL)
Walla Walla Sweets News Release

WALLA WALLA, WA - With the excitement of the upcoming World Series keeping our national pastime at the forefront of American sports, the Walla Walla Sweets have released their 2017 West Coast League schedule. The home slate at historic Borleske Stadium will feature 32 regular-season contests, with Opening Day presented by Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Walla Walla set for Friday, June 2nd against division rival Wenatchee AppleSox.

"We're ready to go now," said Sweets president Zachary Fraser. "The field needs some work, and we don't have our players in town, so we really can't play - but that is how excited we are to get started."

Key home match-ups & events include:

* June 14-16 - Victoria returns to town. The Sweets swept the Harbourcats to open the 2016 season, only to see 'Cats go on to reel of a WCL-record 19 in a row and win the North division. The Sweets hold a 6-3 all-time record against Victoria at Borleske Stadium. * June 20-21 - Yakima Valley Pippins roll down Rt. 12 in the Family Feud. In an interesting schedule quirk, the Pippins play 2 and then return for a single game on July 6. The Sweets do not visit County Stadium during the 2017 regular season. * July 17-18 - WCL All-Star Break. While the Sweets won't visit Yakima Valley for a regular season series, the team will still be represented at the ballpark as Pippins play host to the All-Star Game. The game will be played Tuesday night, July 18. * August 4-6 - Kelowna Falcons fly in to the Walla Walla Valley. This series could have significant repercussions on the playoffs, and the Sweets are excited to have a full house to create a dynamic environment.

Over the coming months, the front office will finalize the promotions schedule, including fireworks, fantastic giveaways and a few top prizes that the fans will help create. With more than 35% of available seats at Borleske Stadium for the 2017 season already sold, and a team that just missed qualifying for the playoffs, the energy around the office is palpable.

"It feels like we're a start-up all over again - and that is a good energy to have," said Fraser.
