Hillsboro, OR (June 16, 2015) - The Hillsboro Hops (@HillsboroHops), a Class--?A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks, have announced their 2015 season--?opening roster.
The team includes 17 pitchers, 2 catchers, 7 infielders and 6 outfielders. The current roster includes 8 first--?year professionals and 24 players with previous professional experience. Five players from the 2014 Northwest League Champion team return: right--?handed pitcher Mike Cetta, left--?handed pitcher Jared Miller, catcher Nate Irving; and infielders Galli Cribbs Jr. and Nate Robertson.
Three of the players on the 2015 roster were selected in the top 10 rounds of last week's first--?year player draft. Taylor Clarke, a right--?handed pitcher from the College of Charleston, was Arizona's third--?round selection. Breckin Williams, a right--?handed pitcher from the University of Missouri, was selected in the fourth round; and right--?handed pitcher Ryan Burr was taken in the fifth round from Arizona State.
The roster also includes left--?handed pitcher Cody Reed, selected in the second round of the 2014 first--?year player draft out of Ardmore High School in Alabama. He is rated as the #19 prospect in the Diamondback system. Right--?handed pitcher Jeferson Mejia will also join the Hops after being acquired by the Diamondbacks from the Chicago Cubs in the Miguel Montero trade in the offseason. He is the #14 prospect in the system.
Also featured on the roster is infielder Sergio Alcantara, currently rated as the #13 prospect in Arizona's system. Scouts peg Alcantara with the best infield arm and strike zone discipline of any prospect in the Diamondback chain.
The Hillsboro Hops open the 2015 season on Thursday, June 18 in Spokane. Opening Night at Ron Tonkin Field in Hillsboro will be Tuesday, June 23 against South Division-rival Salem-Keizer.
