Spokane, WA -The Spokane Indians announced today that Jack Spring and Elten Schiller have been named the 2012 Rim of Honor recipients.

"We are excited to welcome two outstanding individuals to the Rim of Honor," said Indians Senior Vice President, Otto Klein. "Through the years, Jack and Elten both had a profound impact on Indians baseball and the Spokane community."

The team created the Rim of Honor in 2007 to honor both individuals and organizations that have positively contributed to the Indians and the city of Spokane both on and off the field. There are four permanent members of the Rim of Honor: Dwight Aden, Tommy Lasorda, Levi McCormack, and Maury Wills. In addition to the permanent members, two new members are added to the Rim of Honor annually.

A native of Spokane, Jack Spring played a season at Washington State University before turning pro with the Spokane Indians. He pitched for three seasons with Spokane in the 1950's and 1960's and played eight seasons in the Major Leagues, but Spring's biggest contribution to the community came as a high school baseball coach, teacher, and athletic director at West Valley High School . During his 23 years at West Valley, Jack had many coaching highlights including a baseball state championship in 1978.

Elten Schiller had a 41-year career in baseball with five seasons as General Manager of the Spokane Indians (1967-1971), which included the heralded 1970 Indians squad, and 18 seasons as Sr. Vice President Director of Business Operations for the San Diego Padres. Schiller, who served in the Navy during WWII, was credited with the invention of sponsored giveaway nights, mini season ticket plans, and also played a crucial role in the installation of the first computer generated ticket system. He passed away earlier this year at the age of 88.

The 2012 Rim of Honor recipients will be honored in a special ceremony before the home opener on June 15th against the Vancouver Canadians.

The Spokane Indians are the Short Season Class "A" affiliate for the Texas Rangers. The Indians open the 2012 season on Friday, June 15th against the Vancouver Canadians with Opening Night Fireworks & AAA Magnet Schedule Giveaway presented by Les Schwab Tires, KREM-2 TV, 93.7 The Mountain, and SportsRadio 1510 KGA. Single game tickets for the 2012 season are now available for purchase at the Indians Ticket Office or at spokaneindians.com. Reserve your seats today by calling (509) 343-OTTO (6886).
