2008 Former Indians All-Star Team

INDIANAPOLIS -- Of the 63 former Indianapolis Indians who finished the 2008 season on a Major League 40-man roster, 17 are highlighted on the 2008 Former Indians All-Star team.

Milwaukee Brewers RHP Ben Sheets, who played for the Tribe in 2000-01, has been selected as the Former Indians Pitcher of the Year. Sheets posted a 13-9 record and 3.09 ERA in 31 starts, while helping the Brewers to capture the National League Wild Card. He also finished with the eighth best ERA in all of Major League baseball and led all Milwaukee hurlers in wins, innings pitched (198.1) and strikeouts (158).

Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Nate McLouth, who spent part of 2005 season with the Indians, has been chosen as the Former Indians MVP. McLouth had a career year turning a team best .276 batting average, 113 runs, 46 doubles, 26 home runs, 94 RBI and 23 stolen bases. His runs total was tied for sixth in all of Major League baseball, while his doubles total was tied for seventh.

New York Mets manager Jerry Manuel, who played for Indianapolis in 1986 and managed the Tribe in 1991, has been chosen as the Former Indians Manager of the Year. Manuel ,who took over the reigns of the Mets when Willie Randolph was fired early in the season, led New York to a 55-38 record the rest of the way and fell just one game shy of making the playoffs.

Other position players selected to the 2008 Former Indians All-Star team include, C Ryan Doumit, 1B Paul Konerko, 2B Freddy Sanchez, SS J.J. Hardy, 3B, Bill Hall, LF Ty Wigginton, RF Corey Hart, and utility man Marco Scutaro.

Pitchers, Randy Johnson, Paul Maholm, Oliver Perez, Doug Davis, Matt Capps, Mike Gonzalez and B. J. Ryan were also chosen to round out the Former Indians All-Star squad.
