Daytona Tortugas News Release
[DAYTONA BEACH, FL] When the Florida State League All-Star Game takes place on June 14 in Brevard County, five members of the 2008 Daytona Cubs will be on display. Outfielder Jim Adduci, catcher Welington Castillo, pitchers Alex Maestri and Casey Lambert and infielder Tony Thomas are the representatives for the Cubs, which are currently fourth in the FSL East with a 25-27 record.
Adduci, who has hit over .300 for the entire first half, also leads the FSL with 62 base hits. Adduci also leads the Cubs in average, hits, runs, walks and is tied for the club lead in stolen bases. This marks the first all-star selection for Adduci.
Castillo has shown a strong arm behind the plate and has kept his batting average steadily around .280. The selection is also the first ever for Castillo.
Lambert leads the Cubs with nine saves this season and also is the club leader in appearances with 22 relief outings. Lambert was selected in the sixth round of the 2007 draft and is in his first full season of professional baseball and is a first-time all-star.
Maestri is currently tied for the club lead in the wins category with four and has been amongst the leaders in the FSL in the ERA department this season. Maestri was selected as a Midwest League all-star with the Peoria Chiefs last season.
Thomas finds himself tied for the stolen base lead with Adduci this season. He also leads all Cubs in home runs with three on the year. In 2007 Thomas was named an all-star with the Boise Hawks.
