TAMPA BAY, Fla. - The Tampa Bay Lightning, NHL parent club of the Norfolk Admirals, have re-signed defenseman Mike Lundin to a one-year contract today, Lightning Executive Vice President and General Manager Brian Lawton announced.
Lundin, 6-foot-2, 188 pounds, has played in 106 career games with the Lightning, including 81 in 2007-08, recording eight assists. He represented Tampa Bay in the 2008 NHL YoungStars Game in Dallas. During that season, Lundin ranked second on the Lightning and first among defensemen with a plus-3 rating after making the team out of training camp directly from college.
A native of Burnsville, Minnesota, Lundin appeared in 25 games with Tampa Bay last season, recording two assists. After being reassigned to the Admirals in December, he went on to play in 51 games with the Admirals. Lundin led Norfolk defensemen in scoring with 29 points, sixth overall, and was second in assists on the team during that time. He also served as the alternate captain for multiple stretches in March and April.
Lundin, 24, played 160 games with the University of Maine during his four-year career, recording 13 goals and 68 points. He also tallied eight power-play goals. During his senior year he played in all 40 games and scored six goals with a total of 20 points. He tied for the team lead in goals by a defenseman and ranked second in points. Lundin scored five power-play goals and ranked first on the team among defensemen, tied for sixth overall. He set career highs for goals, points and power-play goals.
Selected by Tampa Bay in the fourth-round, 102nd overall, at the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, Lundin will be attending his third training camp with the Lightning.
