
2005 WNBA All-Star Game plays to full house

CONNECTICUT, July 9, 2005 - A capacity crowd of 9,138 basketball fans packed the Mohegan Sun Arena to see the best and brightest stars in the WNBA compete in the 2005 WNBA All-Star Game. Hometown favorites Diana Taurasi, Sue Bird, Swin Cash and Nykesha Sales joined league veterans and perennial All-Stars Lisa Leslie, Sheryl Swoopes and Yolanda Griffith to give fans a one-of-a-kind basketball experience. The WNBA All-Star Game aired live today on ABC.
As part of the day-long festivities, prior to the game, 12,110 avid WNBA fans and their families filled 130,000 square feet of the Mohegan Sun's Riverview Rooftop for WNBA Summer Jam to meet their favorite All-Stars. The interactive basketball festival featured shooting contests, autograph stations, photo kiosks where fans could picture themselves in the game, team mascots and dance squad performances.
In addition to the ABC telecast, the 2005 WNBA All-Star Game was broadcast in 193 countries by 52 telecasters in 31 languages allowing the league's global fan base to witness all the action taking place on the court during the WNBA's marquee mid-season event. The WNBA tipped off its ninth season on Saturday, May 21, 2005 under the leadership of new President Donna Orender. In 2004, for the sixth consecutive season, more than two million fans attended WNBA games. Also in 2004, three consecutive WNBA Finals sellout crowds witnessed the Seattle Storm defeat the Connecticut Sun to capture its first WNBA Championship.
