2005 Surf internship program unveiled

APPLICANTS: Any individual interested in management of a professional sports team. College degree preferred, but not required.

INTERNSHIPS: The Surf have up to SEVEN FULL-TIME internships available for the 2005 season. All will begin on Thursday, January 6th 2005 and conclude following the season. The internships will consist of corporate sales (advertising, promotional sponsorships, ticket plans), group sales and work in one of the following areas: Public Relations, Promotions, Operations (stadium and field), and Ticketing (groups and box office). ALL INTERNSHIPS WILL CONSIST ALMOST EXCLUSIVELY OF SALES FROM JANUARY THROUGH APRIL. IF THIS DOES NOT INTEREST YOU, PLEASE DO NOT APPLY. Compensation will be hourly (minimum wage) versus a draw during the off-season and hourly in-season.

OPERATIONS:
PRE-SEASON DUTIES: 9:00 am-5:00 pm: Primarily advertising sales and group sales, hiring/training of game day employees/stadium staff (March/April). Corporate and ticket sales is the highest priority during this time unless instructed otherwise by the Director of Sales and Marketing or your department head.
IN-SEASON DUTIES: Management of game day employees/stadium staff, supervising parking lot operations, working with grounds crew on daily game-day field preparation, stadium maintenance, and upkeep of stadium sky box suites. Person will also be responsible for group sales efforts and any other duties with other departments as needed.

PROMOTIONS:
PRE-SEASON DUTIES: 9:00 am-5:00 pm: Primarily advertising sales and group sales, pre-season preparation for the "show" including music compilation, on-field promotions, scheduling of anthems, color guards and dream teams. Assist the Promotions manager with anything needed to prepare for upcoming season. Corporate and ticket sales is the highest priority during this time unless instructed otherwise by the Director of Sales and Marketing or your department head.
IN-SEASON DUTIES: Participation in daily promotional meetings, coordination with corporate sponsors, preparation for daily promotional activities (ie, on-field games/activities, pre-game giveaways, upkeep of promotional items/equipment), scheduling of concourse table space, scheduling of national anthem singers, execution of national sponsorship programs. Person will also be responsible for group sales efforts and any other duties with other departments as needed.

PUBLIC RELATIONS:
PRE-SEASON DUTIES: 9:00 am-5:00 pm: Primarily advertising sales and group sales, preparation of team publications (media guide, program, season ticket holder newsletter), collection of sponsor ad copy (print/radio). Corporate and ticket sales is the highest priority during this time unless instructed otherwise by the Director of Sales and Marketing or your department head.
IN-SEASON DUTIES: Assisting the media relations department in the preparation of all written elements, including press notes, publications, etc. Also help in the updating of the team's Web site, press box operations, media relations efforts, and email database development. Person will also be responsible for group sales efforts and any other duties with other departments as needed.

TICKETING:
PRE-SEASON DUTIES: 9:00 am-5:00 pm: Primarily advertising sales and group sales, preparation of ticket packages (printing of season tickets, mini-plans). Corporate and ticket sales is the highest priority during this time unless instructed otherwise by the Director of Sales and Marketing or your department head.
IN-SEASON DUTIES: Handling of box office ticket transactions, preparation of ticket packages (printing of season tickets, mini-plans), printing of group tickets, assistance with pass lists (front office, home clubhouse, visiting clubhouse), and daily ticket/cash reconciliation. Person will also be responsible for group sales efforts and any other duties with other departments as needed.

REQUIREMENTS (ALL INTERNSHIPS): The right individual will be a highly motivated, outgoing person who understands the "all hands on deck" mentality needed to succeed in minor league baseball. Outstanding work ethic and desire to succeed within a team-first environment is essential.

EXPECTATIONS: The Surf expect that interns consider themselves a part of our staff. Within Minor League Baseball, the front office staff performs duties at all levels of management and maintenance. From time to time, staff members will be required to help sell tickets, interact with players and coaches, pull tarp over field, be the mascot and other tasks, in addition to their primary duties. Everyone working in Minor League Baseball wears many different "hats," a willingness to go above and beyond one''s normal duties is expected. The Surf offer the opportunity to learn the business of baseball from the ground up. The ownership and management have years of experience in the industry, and the opportunity to find full-time employment for those that excel does exist.
