2003-04 All-NBDL Selections Announced
March 31, 2004 - NBA G League (G League) News Release
GREENVILLE, S.C., March 31 â Three players that earned Gatorade callups to the NBA this season and a pair of rookies highlight the 2003-04 All-NBDL first team selections, while Charleston guard Tierre Brown was voted by the league's six head coaches to the first team for a second consecutive year.
The three All-NBDL first team selections that were called up to the NBA this season include Desmond Penigar, a rookie from Asheville who was called up to the Orlando Magic, Jason Collier of Fayetteville who was called up to the Atlanta Hawks and Brown, who was called up to the New Orleans Hornets. In all, the NBDL has had 16 callups up to this point in the season.
Rounding out the All-NBDL First Team are guard Marque Perry and forward Josh Asselin, both of the Roanoke Dazzle. Perry joins Penigar as the two first-year pros on the All-NBDL first team. Only Brown played in the NBDL last season.
The All-NBDL second team consists of three forwards due to a tie in the final balloting. Britton Johnsen of Fayetteville, Ime Udoka of Charleston and Phil Ricci of Huntsville hold down those spots. Both of the second team guards, Omar Cook and Junie Sanders, are from the Fayetteville Patriots, while center Brandon Kurtz plays at Asheville.
"The league appreciates how difficult it is for our coaches to come up with the All-NBDL first and second teams given the abundance of talent in the league," NBDL Director of Basketball Operations Chris Alpert said. "All the players represented on the first and second teams had exceptional seasons, as did the honorable mention selections."
Players earning All-NBDL Honorable Mention include forwards Bryan Lucas (Fayetteville), Erron Maxey (Columbus), Rolan Roberts (Charleston) and Terrence Shannon (Roanoke); center Kris Lang (Asheville); guards Alpha Bangura (Charleston), Mateen Cleaves (Huntsville), Rod Grizzard (Huntsville), Lavor Postell (Asheville) and Kareem Reid (Asheville).
Roanoke led the way with two All-NBDL first team selections. Asheville and Fayetteville both had five all-league selections, including first, second and honorable mention. Charleston followed with four.
