The Sudbury Wolves are pleased to announce that the PERKINS PINK IN THE RINK event held on February 14, 2014 at the Sudbury Arena has generated $17,000 for Breast Cancer treatment and research in the North. Accepting the cheque on behalf of the Canadian Cancer Society are Cathy Burns and Sue Lekun. Making the presentation on behalf of the Burgess Family and the Sudbury Wolves' organization are Wolves' players: Connor Burgess and Conor Cummins along with Wolves' President Blaine Smith. Game sponsors: Geoffrey Lougheed from Lougheed Flowers and Matt Zawierzeniec from Skaters' Edge were also on hand for the cheque presentation.
"Once again Wolves' fans have demonstrated their community spirit and generosity for important charitable causes" notes Wolves' President Blaine Smith. "In partnership with the Burgess Family and our loyal game sponsors, a significant amount of money was raised for the Canadian Cancer Society's ongoing fight against breast cancer."
Funds were raised from the proceeds from the sale of game tickets, pink game worn jerseys, pink hockey sticks, a silent auction, a 50/50 draw as well as net proceeds from the sale of pink scarves - courtesy of Skaters' Edge Source for Sports.
"The Canadian Cancer Society is grateful for the support from Mark Burgess, the Burgess Family and the Sudbury Wolves organization in supporting breast cancer research and the Women to Women campaign in Sudbury," said Cathy Burns, Community Manager of the Canadian Cancer Society. "All proceeds raised will be directed to the funding for the clinical trial that focuses on breast cancer treatment for women in Sudbury. There are three clinical trials that are occurring in Sudbury that are funded by the Canadian Cancer Society. Events such as the Sudbury Wolves 'Pink in the Rink' will allow us to continue with our long history of funding breast cancer research in Sudbury."
The Sudbury Wolves would like to thank Todd Connors and PERKINS RESTAURANT & BAKERY for sponsoring the event, as well as the Lougheed Family and LOUGHEED FLOWERS for donating flowers to all ladies attending the event. The Wolves would also like to thank Sean Venedam, Norm Bouffard and the staff at Skaters' Edge for their generous support of the event. The Wolves would like to thank the Canadian Cancer Society and all their volunteers that assisted in making the event a big success.
