Cashing in on two big innings the Calgary Vipers (34-23) defeated the Lake County Fielders (27-24) 18-9 before 2398 fans at Foothills Stadium in Calgary, Alberta. After falling behind 3-0 in the top of the first inning the Vipers scored six times in the bottom of the frame to take the lead for good. Calgary later salted the game away with an eight run sixth and overall collected 19 hits to go along with ten walks. Jimmy Rohan led the way at the plate with five hits and five runs batted in. With the win Calgary increases their lead in the North Division to two and a half games.

Out of the bullpen Rob Naegele (2-0) recorded the win with a scoreless fourth inning while Dan Morari tossed two scoreless frames and Mike Burns pitched a scoreless seventh frame. Ryan Gunderson (0-3) took the loss after allowing six runs in two-thirds of an inning.

Lake County jumped onto the scoreboard in the top of the first inning when John Dziomba and Mark Samuelson walked, Franklyn Lopez doubled in both, Colin Moro singled, and David Coleman drove in a run with a fielder's choice for a 3-0 advantage.

Calgary answered in the bottom of the frame as Jonny Kaplan and Wilver Perez walked, Jimmy Rohan drove in a run with a single, C.J. Ziegler reached on a fielding error to load the bases, Lino Garcia walked for a run batted in, Chad Ehrnsberger collected a sacrifice fly, Justin Tellam walked to again load the sacks, Dusty Gober drove in two with a single, and Kaplan capped the six run inning with a RBI double for a 6-3 lead.

The Vipers added a run in the second when with two outs Garcia doubled and Ehrnsberger drove him in with a base hit for a 7-3 score.

The Fielders responded in the third inning as Moro and Coleman singled, Sam Judah doubled in one, and Derek Perren singled in two for a 7-6 game.

In the fourth Calgary plated one when Rogan and Ziegler singled, Ehrnsberger walked to load the bases, and Miller collected a sacrifice fly for a 8-6 lead

Another run was added in the fifth frame as Perez singled, stole second base, advanced to third on a passed ball, and scored on a Rohan single for a 9-6 advantage.

Calgary blew the game open in the sixth inning when Ehrnsberger walked, Miller doubled, Tellam singled in both, Louie Templeton and Kaplan reached with base hits, Perez walked to load the base, Rohan drove in two with a base knock, Ziegler doubled in one, Rohan scored on a passed ball, Garcia walked, Ehrnsberger singled in one, and Miller collected a sacrifice fly to cap the eight-run inning for a 17-6 lead.

The score became 18-6 in the seventh as Jeff Giacomini and Rohan both doubled for a run.

Lake County got a run back in the eighth frame when Moro doubled and scored on a Brad Agustin RBI single for a 18-7 score.

In the ninth inning the Fielder's scored last as Perren singled and Samuelson hit a home run for a 18-9 final.

This series against Kevin Costner's Lake County Fielders continues on Toonie Tuesday July 26th at 6:30 and on Weiner Wednesday July 27th at 6:30 for $5.00 Student Night.

Calgary welcomes the Chico Outlaws on Thursday July 28th at 6:30 for Ladies Night and Paint the Park Pink in support of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. On Friday July 29th at 6:30 it will be Christmas in July Night with Food Bank Donations being accepted, Dave the Horn Guy will perform on Saturday July 30th at 5:05, and on Sunday July 31st at 1:35 it will be 9-Inning Giveaway Day.

The Calgary Vipers will be hosting three Women's Pro Fastpitch games between the USAA Pride and the Tennessee Diamonds August 2nd, 3rd and 4th at 6:30 at Foothills Stadium. Tickets are $16 for the Lower Bowl and $12 for the Upper Bowl. Three game packages are also available for $45 and $33. In addition there will be two skill clinics August 2nd and 4th from 10am - 12pm. Cost is $99 for a Clinic and Lunch or $120 for the Clinic, Lunch and two Lower Bowl tickets. There will also be a Lunch Banquet August 3rd including an autograph session with both teams and a lower bowl ticket to the August 3rd game for $49.95 with keynote speaker Cheri Kempf, the Commissioner of the NPF and an ESPN analyst.
