Edmonton Capitals News Release

Edmonton, AB - The Edmonton Capitals were cruising along with a 4-0 lead through five innings on Sunday afternoon at TELUS Field, but the Chico Outlaws exploded for 10 runs in the top of the sixth and never looked back en route to a 12-4 victory.

Caps starting pitcher Lou Pote was nearly flawless through five innings, but everything fell apart for the home side in the sixth, as the Outlaws sent 14 batters to the plate and scored 10 of them to take complete control of the game.

They added single runs in the seventh and ninth to finish off the win, dropping the Caps' record to 31-25 on the North American League season. Edmonton now trails the provincial rival Calgary Vipers by 2.5 games in the North Division standings.

Third baseman Carlos Duncan had the best day at the plate for the Caps, hitting a pair of singles to drive in a pair of runs, while left fielder Todd Linden hit a double for one RBI, and first baseman Brent Metheny drove in his team-leading 55th RBI with a sacrifice fly. Leading the way for the Outlaws offensively were centre fielder Kurt Steinhauer and second baseman Bobby Hill, who each had three hits, two RBI and two runs scored.

Pote was chased out of the game in the sixth after giving up six runs, while Jorge Vasquez, Tom Boleska, newly-acquired Justin Mace, Andrew Arreola and Bartolome Fortunato also pitched in the defeat. Travis Kane picked up the win for Chico, tossing scoreless sixth and seventh innings.

The Caps and Outlaws conclude their mini three-game series in Edmonton on Tuesday at 7 p.m. for another edition of $2 Tuesdays presented by CISN FM. All-you-can-drink slushies for $2 are back, and fans can also buy ice cream, fries, nachos and pizza by the slice for just a toonie.
