Ottawa RedBlacks News Release
OTTAWA-GATINEAU - The CFL announced the 2016 Divisional All-Stars on Wednesday and, for the second-straight year, the REDBLACKS are well-represented amongst the honourees.
The REDBLACKS, who finished atop the East Division for the second year in a row, have 11 All-Stars on this year's list, even more than the powerhouse Calgary Stampeders. With 12 offensive players and 12 defensive players selected for each division, plus three each on special teams, the REDBLACKS account for just under half of the East Division all-stars selected this season.
Quarterback Trevor Harris, who helped the REDBLACKS get off to a 3-0-1 start after Henry Burris went down with an injury, leads a class of offensive All-Stars that includes three-quarters of Ottawa's 1,000-yard club with receivers Chris Williams, Ernest Jackson and Greg Ellingson all getting the nod. Left tackle SirVincent Rogers and centre Jon Gott - who has suited up for every REDBLACKS game since the team kicked off its inaugural season in 2014 - were also selected among offensive all-stars. It's the second-straight year as CFL East Division All-Stars for Gott, Rogers and Williams.
Defensively, Canadian defensive lineman Zack Evans, who had six sacks and a career-high 24 defensive tackles, was honoured by the league, as was REDBLACKS tackle leader, linebacker Damaso Munoz. Defensive back Abdul Kanneh was also selected for the second-straight year, while first-year REDBLACKS defensive backs Mitchell White and Jonathan Rose rounded out the list.
The REDBLACKS will focus on perfecting their play this week while they await their East Final opponent from Sunday's semifinal tilt between Hamilton and Edmonton. The November 20th East Final from TD Place will either be a rematch of last year's East Final or a rematch of the 2015 Grey Cup. A limited number of great seats are still available as the REDBLACKS eye their 12th consecutive sellout.
