10,000+ Watch Halifax Dump Rimouski 6-1

February 5, 2023 - Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL)
Halifax Mooseheads News Release

The flood gates opened for the Mooseheads in the second period when they scored five straight goals in front of a near sell-out crowd en route to securing a 6-1 victory over the visiting Rimouski Oceanic.

The QMJHL scoring leader Jordan Dumais had 10,306 fans on their feet with his fourth hat trick of the season and Halifax pushed the unbeaten in regulation streak to a whopping 24 games, which is just four behind the all-time league record. Evan Boucher, Brody Fournier and Attilio Biasca also found the back of the net as the Moose wiped out a 1-0 deficit by scoring six consecutive goal to finish the game.

Dumais upped his point total to 91 and also reclaimed the CHL scoring lead by one point ahead of Regina's Connor Bedard. The game started as a defensive battle between the clubs with neither team mounting much for chances in the opening 20 minutes and they were scoreless with just eight shots combined heading into the second period. Rimouski broke the stalemate on an early period goal at the side of the net from Julien Beland but it didn't take long for the Herd to respond. Boucher evened the score 1-1 just 1:44 later while Dumais gave the Mooseheads a lead for the first time by the 4:41 mark of the middle stanza. It was a lead that they would not relinquish as Fournier, Biasca and then another from Dumais put the home team ahead 5-1 through two period of play. The Columbus prospect finished off the hat trick on the power play at 6:46 of the third and it was smooth sailing the rest of the way.

Rimouski Head Coach Serge Beausoleil was quick to yank starting goalie Patrik Hamrla after allowing two goals on five shots. Gabriel Robert took over between the pipes and he allowed three to get in before Beausoleil went back to Hamrla to begin the third period. Mathis Rousseau wasn't overly busy for Halifax and earned his 26th win of the season with 15 saves.

The Herd will have a major test when they put their massive hot streak on the line this Wednesday night in Gatineau. The Olympiques have caught fire since the addition of Riley Kidney at the trade deadline and have won nine of their last 10 games. The Mooseheads will also travel to Drummondville and Shawinigan on the trip on the weekend.

The next home game for Halifax is coming up on Friday, February 17th at 7pm against the Acadie-Bathurst Titan at Scotiabank Centre. Tickets are on sale now at TicketAtlantic.com.
