Danville Dashers News Release

Danville, IL - Despite a stronger opening period, the Danville Dashers finished weak and were swept for the weekend by the Thousand Island Privateers.

Danville demonstrated a much stronger effort in the first period than was shown the previous evening. 11 shots for the period and a short-handed goal from Shane Heffernan highlighted the period for the Dashers. It wasn't enough to end the period with a lead, however, as goals from Justin Levac and Mike Byrd gave the Thousand Islands Privateers a 2-1 advantage to end the period.

Unfortunately for Danville, they continued their second period struggles from opening night. Allowing four Privateer goals, including strikes from Brad Smulders, Kelly Miller, Adam McAllister, and a second goal on the night from Justin Levac,Danville hard a hard time offensively, only mustering 8 shots on goal.

The final frame was much of the same as the Privateers put three past the Dashers' netminder to finish them game scoring nine goals, all of which were unanswered. The final score of 9-1 drops Danville to 0-2-0 on the young season.

The biggest news of the night was a pair of hat-tricks on the night. The first trick went to Brad Smulders, while Justin Levac completed his with only four seconds remaining in the contest. Thousand Islands went 1-3 on the man-advantage, while Danville went 0-3. Matt Anthony recorded his second win of the weekend, stopping 29 of 30 shots, and improved his team's record to 2-0-0.

The Danville Dashers will return to action on November 5th against the defending league champion Akwesasne Warriors at 7:05 pm. Tickets are available through the Palmer Arena box office at 217-431-2424.
