Lexington County Blowfish News Release
It's time for the second annual Blowfish split squad game. The Blowfish will play two games in two separate states on Thursday. First, the Blowfish will travel to Savannah to take on the Bananas on a road trip. Blowfish alumni, current, and prospective future Blowfish will take the field at The Lex when they host the Catawba Valley Stars.
Returning to the coaches boxes for Lexington County will be the original head coach, Tim Medlin. Medlin, currently the head coach at USC-Sumter, was the Columbia Blowfish skipper from 2006-2009. Coach Medlin helped lay a strong foundation for years to come. Jonathan Johnson will also coach the Blowfish once again. Johnson, a standout pitcher at Florida State and former major league pitcher, was the Blowfish head coach from 2013-2017 and is the winningest coach in Blowfish history. He is currently the head coach of the new baseball program at Columbia International University.
Not only will former coaches be in the home dugout, but multiple players from years past will once again don the navy and white.
An original Blowfish, Lexington native Timothy Martin, will pitch for the Blowfish. Martin played for the Blowfish during its inaugural season in 2006, and is currently a member of the South Carolina National Guard. He will be honored at the game as our Lexington County Military Family of the Night. Blowfish alum Tripp Hansen, Pelion native, played for the Blowfish in 2015 and will also be playing on Thursday. Former Blowfish Nick Jobst (2014, 2015) and Derrick Smith (2012,2013) will also suit up for the Blowfish.
Finally, Mr. Blowfish Jared Williams, former North Greenville standout and Gilbert High alum, played for the Blowfish from 2015-2018, and holds the record for most games played by a single player in Blowfish history. He makes his return to The Lex to play alongside Martin, Hansen, as well as current Blowfish Peyton Evans, Josh Senter, Kitt Capell, Justin Parrish, Brett Fulk, Brady Smith, and Jordan Beatson.
It's Thirsty Thursday - $1 dollar 12 oz Bud lights and ice cold Coca Cola. It's the Blowfish vs Catawba Valley Stars at Lexington County Baseball Stadium. Gates open at 6 pm, with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 pm!
