New Jersey Jackals News Release
Little Falls, NJ â Quebec was too much in the late innings for New Jersey, as Les Capitales completed a three-game sweep against the Jackals, with a 4-3 win on Sunday.
The Jackals picked up a run in the top of the first inning, off Quebec's Paul Jacinto. After Zack Smithlin reached on an error by Jacinto, Kevin Grijak followed it up with an RBI single.
In the bottom half of the inning, Juan Melo doubled with two aboard, clearing the bases, and putting Quebec on top.
A Wady Almonte RBI single in the top of the third inning evened up the score.
The score would remain deadlocked at two until the top of the sixth. Scott Goodman hit a lead off, solo homerun, to give the Jackals a 3-2 advantage.
But in the bottom half of the inning, Les Capitales would strike back. Eddie Lantigua hit his third homer in three days, a solo shot, once again bringing the game into a tie.
With the ballgame still tied at three in the seventh inning, the Jackals squandered a chance with the bases loaded and one out, to take a lead. The next two batters were retired consecutively.
For the second time in the series, Quebec would use a rally in the bottom of the eighth to give themselves the lead going into the ninth. Off reliever Evan Neiser, Ricky Morton singled with runners at first and second, scoring Juan Melo, making it 4-3 Quebec.
Paul Jacinto received a no decision for Quebec. He pitched six and one third innings, while giving up nine hits, three runs, only one earned run. Jacinto walked two and struck out six. Mike Hoyt was the winner in relief, while Alex Santos was awarded the save.
