Summary Hartford's Dillon Thomas drilled a three-run homerun during a five-run rally in the sixth inning Saturday night, as the YardGoats slipped by the Akron RubberDucks, 6-5, at Dunkin' Donuts Park inHartford, Connecticut.
Turning Point The Yard Goats (18-22) sent eight batters to theplate and scored five times in the sixth inning to assume a 6-2 lead and knockAkron starter Thomas Pannone (0-1) out of the game. Ashley Graeter's RBI doubletied the game, 2-2. An error by Yu Chang allowed the go-ahead to score, andthen Thomas stroked a three-run shot to left to make it 6-2. It was Thomas'fourth of the year.
Winging It Pannone,who also committed a throwing error in the sixth, allowed six hits and six run,five earned, in suffering his first loss of the season. He walked two andstruck out five. Leandro Linares provided 2.2 innings of scoreless relief inhis AA debut for the RubberDucks. On the Hartford side, starter Parker French(3-3) picked up the win by allowing two runs over six innings. Shane Broylesearned his second save.
Duck Tales Francisco Mejia returned from the DL and saw actionfor the first time since May 8th. He drilled a solo homer in thesixth and added a run-scoring double in the eighth. Bobby Bradley was 2-3 onthe night, including a two-run shot in the eighth when the Ducks pulled towithin 6-5. It was Bradley's seventh of the year. Dorssys Paulino had anothersolid night, going 3-3, with a walk. Hisdouble in the second drove in Bradley for Akron's first run.
Notebook TheRubberDucks (17-20) have lost both games in the series despite collecting 23hits and clubbing seven homers so far...The Ducks had the tying run on base inthe ninth courtesy of Mark Mathias' single, but Broyles struck out Todd Hankinsand got Tyler Krieger on a fly-out to end it...Time of Game: 2:46 ...Attendance: 6,732.
