Westchester Knicks Roll Through Grand Rapids Drive in Front of Record

January 28, 2017 - NBA G League (G League)
Westchester Knicks News Release

WHITE PLAINS, NY - The Westchester Knicks (13-14), the official NBA Development League affiliate of the New York Knickerbockers, defeated the Grand Rapids Drive (12-16), the Detroit Pistons' affiliate, in front of a Westchester County Center crowd of 2,483 - almost 400 fans over capacity and a new attendance record for a non- School Day game. The final score: 117-108.

All five starters recorded double-digits in the win, forward Damien Inglis leading Westchester with 28 points and eight rebounds. Von Wafer contributed 25 points, Keith Wright finished with 13, and Jordon Crawford with 11. Courtney Fells was just short of a double-double with 16 points and nine rebounds, also adding five assists and two blocks. From the bench, guard Kevin Capers also found double-digits, ending his night with 15 points.

Grand Rapids was led by Henry Ellenson, who dropped 29 points while hitting 5-of-8 three-pointers and tallying nine rebounds. Darrun Hillard contributed 28 points with eight rebounds, while Ray McCallum notched a double-double of 13 points and 10 assists, also adding six rebounds.

Westchester found themselves down by eight in the opening minutes of the game. With the home team forced to play from behind until the second quarter was ushered in, the Knicks found a way to battle back despite a thunderous start by Grand Rapids. After trading blows with each other, the Knicks were able to finish out the first half strong and entered halftime with the lead. Westchester forward Damien Inglis could not be contained and while held scoreless in the game's opening quarter, led the Knicks' rally in the second quarter with 15 points.

Westchester took its hard fought lead and ran away with it in the second half. The Knicks never trailed after halftime and commanded a lead as high as 24 points. But even with the home team's imposing lead, Grand Rapids would not go away easily. After a foul fest of a fourth quarter, Knicks forward Von Wafer's 14 second half points, to go along with Damien Inglis' 13 second half points, guided Westchester to the 117-108 win.

The Westchester Knicks will welcome the Windy City Bulls, the Chicago Bulls' new affiliate, to the Westchester County Center for the first time with a back-to-back match-up beginning Friday, Feb. 3 at 7:00 p.m. for Knicks Legends Night.

The Westchester Knicks are turning back the clock! The team will wear a throwback jersey, courtesy of Hospital for Special Surgery, that celebrates the style of Knicks past. Fans can bid on the special jerseys throughout the game via a silent auction, with proceeds from the auction going to FDNY 343 Ride, an organization that honors the 343 firefighters who died at the World Trade Center on September 11,2011 through an annual bicycle trip on the Anniversary of 9/11.

The team will hold a pregame autograph session with Knicks Legends including Allan Houston, John Starks, Larry Johnson, and Herb Williams, with a special performance from the Knicks City Dancers during the game. Fans who wear a Knicks jersey to the game will receive $5 off the purchase of a select Westchester Knicks t-shirt and the first 1,000 fans will receive a New York Knicks 70th Anniversary T-Shirt.
