Westchester Knicks Downed by Bulls in Teams' First Meeting

January 7, 2017 - NBA G League (G League)
Westchester Knicks News Release

HOFFMAN ESTATES, IL- The Westchester Knicks (10-9), the official NBA Development League affiliate of the New York Knickerbockers, lost steam in the final quarter on what looked to be a developing comeback to the Windy City Bulls (7-11), the Chicago Bulls' new affiliate, falling 113-102 on the road.

Chasson Randle paced the Knicks with 22 points, six rebounds, and three assists. Doron Lamb finished off the bench with 18 points on 7-for-13 shooting; Damien Inglis falling just short of a double-double with 16 points and nine rebounds, also adding six assists and four blocked shots. New York Knicks assignee Marshall Plumlee contributed 14 points and six rebounds while assignee Maurice Ndour had six points.

On assignment from the Chicago Bulls, center Bobby Portis led all scorers with 32 points, adding nine rebounds, three assists, and three blocked shots. His fellow assignee, Paul Zipser, followed with 18 points, also grabbing nine rebounds.

Aaron Thomas finished with 17 points, six rebounds, and three assists, while Alfonzo McKinnie provided 15 points and seven rebounds.

With both teams toting two players on assignment from the parent clubs, the Knicks and Bulls remained evenly matched throughout the game. Westchester was its own worst enemy in the first, giving up 10 points to turnovers to give Windy City a nine-point advantage after one. Bulls assignee Bobby Portis went off for 13 points in the first twelve minutes, but the Knicks were able to silence him in the next quarter, cutting the deficit to four at the half.

Both teams tried to get their three-point game going in the third, but both failed, Windy City hitting just 1-of-7, Westchester 1-of-4 on the quarter. Bulls assignee Paul Zipser's 11 points helped Windy City avoid a Knicks takeover, the teams within three heading into the final quarter. With 9:54 to go, Westchester found its first lead since early in the first, but it did not last as the next four minutes saw the Bulls outscore the Knicks 13-7 to take a five-point advantage. An ensuing 12-2 run gave Windy City one final push as the home team took the game 113-102.

The Westchester Knicks return home to the historic Westchester County Center tomorrow, Jan. 7 to take on the Delaware 87ers, the Philadelphia 76ers' affiliate, for a 7:00 p.m. match-up.
