Santa Cruz Warriors News Release

SIOUX FALLS, South Dakota - The Santa Cruz Warriors (7-8) fell to the Sioux Falls Skyforce (11-3) 112-107 on Wednesday night at the Sanford Pentagon. Seven different players scored in double-figures for the Warriors, but the balanced scoring effort was not enough to take a sixth straight victory.

Santa Cruz was paced by Alex Hamilton who notched 21 points, 8 assists, 6 rebounds and 4 steals. LaDontae Henton added 15 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists off the bench. Scott Wood, Dennis Clifford, Cam Jones, and James Southerland contributed 12 points apiece.

Keith Benson led the Skyforce with 23 points and 7 rebounds. Jabril Trawick scored 20 of his 22 points after halftime and grabbed a career-high eight rebounds. Patrick Miller came off the bench to add 15 points for Sioux Falls. The opening frame was a close battle, though the Skyforce would hold the edge through the entirety of the period. Sioux Falls opened the second frame on a 14-4 run, running up a 12-point surplus by the 7:45 mark. After calling a timeout, the Warriors chipped away at their deficit behind a 12-3 run to come within 3 points.

The battle continued through the third quarter, though Sioux Falls would continue to hold the edge. A three-pointer from LaDontae Henton with 5:34 left in the third frame tied the game 65-65 for the first time since the opening minutes of the game. Four minutes later, a driving layup from James Southerland gave Santa Cruz their first lead since opening play of the game. The quarter ended with the score tied at 75-all.

In the opening minute of the final frame, Keith Benson notched a floating jump-shot and Ike Nwamu drilled a triple to give Sioux Falls an 80-75 lead. Santa Cruz relentlessly battled back, pulling ahead with an 87-86 edge by the 8:34 mark in the fourth quarter.

Miller, Benson and Trawick went on to score the next 14 Sioux Falls points as part of a 16-4 run that gave the Skyforce a 102-91 lead with 3:44 left in the game.

A beyond-the-arc bucket from LaDontae Henton pulled Santa Cruz within four points with 3.6 seconds left on the clock, but Santa Cruz ran out of time to eclipse the hosts' lead.

The Santa Cruz Warriors travel to Pennsylvania to take on the Erie Bayhawks on Friday, Dec. 23 at 4:00 p.m. PST at Erie Insurance Arena, before returning home to celebrate Draymond Green Bobblehead Night on December 27th when they take on the Sioux Falls Skyforce at 7:00 p.m.
