Grand Rapids Drive News Release
BROOKLYN -The Long Island Nets (5-12) overcame a nine-point halftime deficit to defeat the Grand Rapids Drive (8-8) on Thursday afternoon at the Barclays Center. 110-103 was the final.
The loss ends a four-game winning streak for the Drive. The Nets poured in 39 third-quarter points, equaling the most the Drive have given up in a quarter this season, and held the Drive to just 14 points in the fourth quarter.
JJ Moore had a new season high with 29 points and grabbed nine rebounds for Long Island. Yogi Ferrell scored 24 points, Chris McCullough scored 20 points with eight rebounds on assignment from Brooklyn, and Trahson Burrell had 16 points and 13 rebounds.
Only three other Nets players scored, and none had more than seven points, but the starring performances of those four were enough to lead Long Island to the victory.
The Drive, conversely, had extremely balanced scoring, not typical for a team with three players averaging over 19 points a game. Seven players were in double figures for Grand Rapids.
Jordan Crawford led the way with 19 points and four assists off the bench, and Ray McCallum had 17 points, four rebounds, seven assists and five steals.
The Drive outscored the Nets 27-20 in the third quarter to take a 57-48 halftime lead, but they were let down by their defense in the third and their offense in the fourth.
Grand Rapids shot 48 percent from the field but turned the ball over 20 times compared to their season average of 13. The Nets attempted 34 free throws, making 28 of them. They also capitalized on second-chance points, getting 11 offensive rebounds compared to just four for Grand Rapids.
The Drive have a quick chance to get back in the win column, taking on the Maine Red Claws back home on Dec. 23 at 7 p.m. The Nets are also at home for their next game, against Westchester Dec. 26.
