
Trio of Bombs and Errors Send Nuts to 16-5 Loss

Modesto, CA. - Gio Brusa homered three times to lead the San Jose Giants' 16-5 blowout of the Modesto Nuts on Sunday afternoon at John Thurman Field.
Brusa started the scoring against the Nuts' (27-36) starter Reggie McClain (L, 2-4) in the second. He led the inning off with his first home run of the day. He eventually drove in six runs while scoring five times.
The Giants (32-31) added four more runs in the second inning with the help of two errors. A throwing error by Kevin Santa allowed Sandro Fabian to score. Brandon Van Horn ripped a two-run homer and Jalen Miller added a RBI single.
In the third, Brusa reached on an error to start the inning before Johneshwy Fargas drove him home with a RBI single.
McClain worked four innings and allowed seven runs but only two of them were earned while he gave up nine hits and struck out three.
The Nuts were able to get to Giants starter Sandro Cabrera for five runs. The Nuts recorded three RBI singles from Ryan Garcia, Manuel Pazos and Bryson Brigman. Cabrera was knocked out of the game after three innings. He was charged with five runs while issuing four walks.
Jeff Burke (W, 1-0) checked into the game out of the bullpen and did not allow a run over three innings. Nolan Riggs (S, 2/4) tossed three hitless and scoreless innings to shut down the end of the ball game.
The Giants opened things up at the end of the game. Brusa crushed a two-run homer in the eighth and a three-run homer in the ninth against reliever AJ Franks.
