Switchbacks Add Nigerian Defender Christian Ibeagha to Roster

Colorado Springs, CO - The Colorado Springs Switchbacks today announced their latest defensive signee Nigerian player Christian Ibeagha. (Ah-bee-ah-gah)

"We are so glad to have Christian on our roster," said Head Coach Steve Trittschuh as he works to finalize his squad. "He brings playing experience in the NASL and also European experience. He will help bring our defense to the next level with his ability to read the game and his communication."

Born in Nigeria, Ibeagha came to the United States where he was a two-time NSCAA Youth All-American selection and a member of the U.S. soccer residency program in 2006 and 2007 where he was also a member of the United States U17 team. Ibeagha spent his college career at Duke University where he was named to the All-ACC Freshmen team in 2007. His Junior year he was named to the NSCAA All-South Region third team. During his time at Duke, Ibeagha also played in the USL Premier Development League spending the 2008 season with Bradenton Academics and the 2009 season with Cary Clarets. Ibeagha has also played with the North American Soccer League (NASL), Puerto Rico Islanders, Bohemians 1905 (Czech Republic) and FC Suðuroy. (Faroe Islands) before joining the Switchbacks.

"I'm truly grateful for this opportunity. I thank God and I'm blessed to be a part of this organization," said Ibeagha in his excitement to be a part of this roster. "Everyone I've been in contact with from the technical and coaching staff to all of the players have been so wonderful. I'm excited to get things going this season."

Per USL and club policy, the terms of the deal were not disclosed.
