SEATTLE - Seattle Reign FC has announced the re-signing of defender Lauren Barnes for the 2018 NWSL season. Per team and league policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed.

The defender appeared in 22 matches for the club during the 2017 season, starting 21, and had 72 clearances, good for second-most among Reign FC defenders. Barnes and the Reign FC defense posted three shutouts during the 2017 season. Barnes was named the co-captain with midfielder Jess Fishlock ahead of the 2017 NWSL season. In 2017, Barnes made NWSL history when she became the first player to reach 100 regular-season NWSL appearances, all of which came with Seattle Reign FC.

"Lu is one of the steadiest players in the league and since the beginning she has always been one of the league's best defenders," said Seattle Reign FC head coach Vlatko Andonovski. "I'm excited for the opportunity to work with her and hopefully help her add another layer to her game."
