Rosa Pitches Tarpons Past Mets, 4-1

TAMPA, Fla. - For the second night in a row the Tampa Tarpons defeated the St. Lucie Mets by a score of 4-1.

Tarpons starter Adonis Rosa blanked the Mets over six innings. He scattered five hits, did not walk a batter and struck out seven.

Tampa leadoff hitter Ben Ruta doubled in the first inning and tripled in the third inning. The Tarpons would plate Ruta both times on a ground out and a single, respectively, to go ahead 2-0.

Run-scoring hits by Isiah Gilliam and Dom Thompson-Williams in the sixth inning off of Mets starter Gabriel Llanes increased the Tampa lead to 4-0.

The Mets avoided a shutout by scoring their lone run in the ninth for the second straight night. Mike Paez beat out a ground ball on the infield for a single. Desmond Lindsay followed with a double. Anthony Dimino grounded out to bring home Paez to cut the deficit to 4-1.

Tarpons reliever Matt Wivinis struck out the next two batters to end the game.

Dimino, Lindsay and J.J. Franco each collected two-hit games.

The Mets went 0 for 10 with runners in scoring position.

Llanes allowed four runs in 5.1 innings.

Thompson-Williams went 3 for 4 with a double.

Tampa won three in a row in the series after the Mets took the opener in extra innings on Monday.

The Mets (23-31) continue their road trip on Friday when they start a series in Lakeland against the Flying Tigers. First pitch on Friday from Joker Marchant Stadium is 6:30 p.m.
