February 15, 2017 - NBA G League (G League)
Westchester Knicks News Release
MISSISSAUGA, ON - The Westchester Knicks (14-20), the official NBA Development League affiliate of the New York Knickerbockers, lost control of a first-half lead and found itself heading into the All-Star break with a 105-99 loss against the top team in the Eastern Conference, Raptors 905 (25-9), the Toronto Raptors' affiliate.
Continuing to make an impact from the bench, Von Wafer paced the Knicks with 23 points. Right behind him, just one- point shy of recording his fourth team-high score in a row, was John Jenkins, who provided 22 points while grabbing eight rebounds. Courtney Fells rounded out the trio of double-digit scorers, putting in 16 points with an additional five rebounds and three each of assists, steals, and blocks.
Raptors 905 had five players in double-digits, led by CJ Leslie's 25 points, with 13 rebounds for the double-double.
Joining him in the double-double club was Edy Tavares, who had 13 rebounds of his own to go with 16 points and a staggering five blocks. Bruno Caboclo finished with 14 points and seven rebounds, while Antwaine Wiggins provided 14 points from the bench.
Getting his first start for Westchester, Jaylen Bond was the first to put points on the board for either team. The first quarter, mostly a back-and-forth affair, saw four lead changes with the Knicks heating up heading into the second. Though the 905 never trailed by double-digits, the home team found itself down by eight at the half thanks to a quick five points from Westchester in the final 30 seconds.
Right away, the tides changed in the second half, with the Raptors using a 12-4 run to tie things back up to start the third.
The back-and-forth pace ensued, but briefly, as the 905 managed to rack up as much as a 12-point lead over Westchester. Not going down without a fight, the Knicks pulled back within three with just under two minutes left in the game. A minute later, John Jenkins sank three foul shots in a row to make it a two-point game. That would be the last time Westchester would score though, as the Raptors 905 went on to win this one 105-99.
Upon its return from the break, the Westchester Knicks will welcome the Fort Wayne Mad Ants, the Indiana Pacers' affiliate, for Journal News Family Night on Wednesday, Feb. 22 at 7:00 p.m. at the historic Westchester County Center.
Families will have the opportunity to take a complimentary family photo on the concourse and receive a Photo Frame provided by the Journal News. Kids can also enjoy face painting and balloon twisting from Party by Lisa. The game will be broadcast on MSG Networks and streaming live on Facebook Live.
