
Raiders Knock Off Hammers In Home Opener

RICHMOND, Va. - The Richmond Raiders (1-2) earned their first win of the 2015 season Saturday as they defeated the Alabama Hammers (1-1) by a score of 60-45.
After having lost two close games in the past two weeks, the Raiders were a team on a mission to win as they faced the Hammers. Both the offense and defense made plays when they needed to, allowing the Raiders to secure the victory. After a monster second quarter in which they outscored the Hammers 31-0, the Raiders took a 39-16 halftime lead and never looked back.
Jonathan Bane started at quarterback for the Raiders for the second week in a row, completing 23 of 40 passes for 245 yards. The scoring was spread amongst a variety of Raiders as DB Brian Smith (1), WR Devin Wilson (3), WR Herb Jones (1), FB Derrick Okafor (1), and WR Gerron "Scooby" Bryant (2) all found the end zone. Defensively, the Raiders also looked strong as they intercepted five passes and returned one for a touchdown. The defense forced a fumble, and Malik Cromartie posted six tackles.
Wilson hauled in ten catches for 101 yards and three touchdowns. Bryant recorded eight catches for 89 yards, and T.C. Stevens followed up with two unos and a field goal.
For the Hammers, QB Garrett Sutphen completed 18 of 46 passes for 287 yards. Mico McSwain led the Hammers with ten catches for 109 yards and a touchdown, and Charles McClain brought in 5 catches for 110 yards and two touchdowns.
