Pitching Keys Shorebirds' 4-0 Win Over Grasshoppers

Salisbury, Md. - Two Delmarva Shorebirds (5-5) pitchers, Tyler Wilson and Zach Davies, combined on a three-hit shutout of the Greesnboro Grasshoppers in a 4-0 win on Saturday night at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium in front of 7,396 fans. The Shorebirds ended a four-game losing streak with the victory.
The first three home games of the season have drawn 16,903 fans to Arthur W. Perdue Stadium.
The Shorebirds took an early lead in the first. Glynn Davis, who went 3-for-5, singled and stole second. He advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a single into right field by Jason Esposito.
In the third, the Shorebirds tallied another run. Esposito drew a two out walk. Wynston Sawyer, who walked three times, drew a walk. Then, Brenden Webb singled through the right side to score Esposito.
In the fifth, the Shorebirds added cushion to their lead. John Ruettiger walked with one out. Esposito followed with his second hit of the night. Sawyer then walked to load the bases. Brenden Webb connected on a sacrifice fly to center field to give the 'Birds a 3-0 lead. Webb leads the team with 10 RBIs.
Ruettiger hit a bouncer to first in the sixth inning that scored Mychal Givens to stretch the lead to 4-0.
Tyler Wilson picked up his second win of the season in six dominating innings. He allowed just two hits. Wilson faced just three batters over the minimum. He is the first Shorebirds pitcher to toss six innings.
Zach Davies entered in the seventh and hurled three near perfect innings. He faced just one batter over the minimum and struck out four.
The Shorebirds last won at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium on August 10, 2011.
The Shorebirds and Grasshoppers meet in the series finale on Sunday afternoon at 2:05pm. LHP Eduardo Rodriguez is the scheduled starter for the Shorebirds.
