Pats Host Brandon Looking for Third Straight Win

The Regina Pats (5-4-1-0) continue their home stand on Wednesday night against the Brandon Wheat Kings (7-2-0-1). Puck drop is at 7:00 p.m. at the Brandt Centre. The Pats are coming off a 3-2 overtime win over the Edmonton Oil Kings on Sunday, their second consecutive victory. The Wheat Kings meanwhile have won six in a row, including a 6-5 overtime victory over Prince Albert on Sunday. Tonight is the third of eight meetings between Regina and Brandon in 2017-18. The game can be heard starting at 6:35 with Bennett Dunlop Ford Pats Hockey on 620 CKRM.

The Lead Up: Pats win second consecutive overtime game Sunday

The Regina Pats won a second consecutive game in overtime on Sunday, 3-2 over the Edmonton Oil Kings at the Brandt Centre. The game's first goal did not come until the second period when the Edmonton powerplay broke through thanks to Connor McDonald to make it 1-0. Matt Bradley tied it for the Pats with his ninth, just over 10 minutes later, but less than a minute after that, Davis Koch scored on a breakaway and the Oil Kings led 2-1 after two periods. In the third, Sam Steel drew the Pats even with a powerplay goal at 11:20, his fourth of the year and that eventually forced overtime. Regina started the extra frame on the powerplay and a minute in, Emil Oksanen finished off a beautiful passing play with Sam Steel and Josh Mahura and the Pats won 3-2. Regina outshot Edmonton 30-26, the powerplay was two for four and the penalty kill three for four. Josh Mahura led the offence with a three assist night, Sam Steel and Matt Bradley each had a goal and an assist and Tyler Brown made 24 saves in the victory.

Head to Head

The Pats and Wheat Kings split their first two meetings on the opening weekend of the season. Brandon won their home opener 8-1 and Regina bounced back the next night with a 4-3 win at the Brandt Centre. The Wheat Kings have scored 11 goals to the Pats five through two games. Regina has outshot Brandon 78-63, the powerplay is two for 12 and the penalty kill three for eight in the two meetings. Matt Bradley scored three times against Brandon while Emil Oksanen, Wyatt Sloboshan and Dawson Davidson have two points in the season series. The Wheat Kings are led by Ty Lewis who scored twice and had five assists against the Pats. Stelio Matheos has five points and Tanner Kaspick three in the first two games.

Brown Finding his Game

Pats goaltender Tyler Brown has put up some incredible numbers over his last five appearances. The 20-year-old has gone 3-1-0-0 in that stretch with a .931 save percentage and a 1.71 goals against average. For the season, the Winnipeg product sits with a 2.65 GAA which is fifth best in the WHL and a .899 save percentage which is good for 10th.
