Texas Legends News Release
FRISCO, TX, (Jan. 27, 2017) - The Texas Legends (12-14) came up short on the court 97-113 against the Austin Spurs (13-15) Friday night, but the celebration came outside four quarters of basketball. Beyond the in-state rivalry, the Legends used Friday night to honor past and current military members in front of a sold-out crowd.
The two teams exchanged leads six times in the first four minutes before Austin took the lead they'd carry through the night. Charles Garcia powered the Spurs shooting 3-of-4 in the second to boost the visitors to a 64-51 advantage at the half.
The Legends entered the fourth with a six-point deficit and edged within four with nine minutes to play. Daniel Nwaelele lit a spark with an outsider that began an 11-0 run for Austin. The Spurs took their largest lead of the night up 22 with seconds on the clock, but despite the inevitable final outcome, the Legends would have the final word with back-to-back threes before the buzzer.
Mavericks assignees AJ Hammons and Nicolas Brussino took the lead scoring 19 points apiece. Hammons also added a team-high 10 boards while Kyle Collinsworth led the Legends in assists at 8 to go along with 10 points, 4 rebounds.
Charles Garcia came off the bench to lead the Spurs with 25 points along with fellow sixth man Hollis Thompson who added 22. Cory Jefferson added the game's only double-double with 13 points, 12 rebounds.
The Legends will return to the court Wednesday hosting the Los Angeles D-Fenders at 7pm CT. For tickets or information visit www.TexLegends.com.
