Texas Legends News Release
EL SEGUNDO, CA, -The Texas Legends (2-1) grabbed a wire-to-wire win over the South Bay Lakers (3-1) 126-116 Sunday night in El Segundo.
Donald Sloan came out firing, knocking down 13 points in the first to give the Legends a double-digit lead. South Bay would sink three triples in a row to lessen the gap, but Texas held onto a 16-point edge after 12 minutes. The offense cooled off on both ends of the court in the second as each found only one shot from beyond the arc. Texas headed into the locker room up 69-49.
Scott Machado set the pace for the Lakers in the third with 16 points to put a dent in the deficit. After leading by as many as 25, the Legends found themselves clinging to a one-point advantage midway through the fourth. Justin Dentmon responded with eight points in the final four minutes and the Legends answered every Laker attempt to pull ahead.
The Legends were lacking from outside, hitting 31% to South Bay's 44% but found an advantage on the boards 53-39. Sloan led the visitors with 30 points off 12-of-19 shooting, also adding 6 rebounds and a team-high 7 assists. Five other Legends players also finished in double-digits including Jameel Warney (20 points, 13 rebounds) and Kyle Collinsworth (12 points, 13 rebounds) with double-doubles, Dentmon (21 points, 5 steals), Johnathan Motley (13 points, 4 rebounds), and JJ Avila (10 points, 2 blocks).
