MISSISSAUGA, Ontario- Christian Wood (21 points, 10 rebounds), Xavier Munford (20 points, 11 rebounds) and Archie Goodwin (20 points) combined to score 61 points as the Greesnboro Swarm (8-18) held off the Erie BayHawks (7-17), 109-102, on Wednesday at the 2017 NBA Development League Showcase.
The BayHawks were led by reserve Kalin Lucas, who scored a team-best 20 points in 32 minutes of action and shot 75 percent from the field while Gabe York added 18 points and six assists. Cliff Alexander posted a double-double for Erie, which has dropped five of its last six games.
In a first quarter that featured seven ties and seven lead changes, the BayHawks held a 36-32 edge over the Swarm. Anthony Brown and Alex Davis scored seven points apiece for Erie, which went 13-of-25 (52.0 percent) from the field and five-of-seven (71.4 percent) from beyond the arc. Greensboro's Xavier Munford led all scorers with 10 points on four-of-seven shooting after one.
Archie Goodwin and Rasheed Sulaimon each tallied eight points in the second quarter as the Swarm outscored the BayHawks 31-19 to enter halftime with a 63-55 lead. Erie went 6-of-11 (54.5 percent) from downtown but gave up 11 points on six first-half turnovers.
Greensboro led by as many as 19 points before Erie closed the gap to trail 89-79 after three quarters. Brown and Davis continued to lead the way for the BayHawks, scoring 16 and 15 points through three quarters, respectively, but did not score in the fourth quarter.
The BayHawks opened the fourth quarter on an 8-0 run to cut the Swarm's lead to two. Leading 106-102 with less than a minute left, Sulaimon hit the three-point dagger to extend the Swarm's lead to seven, eventually giving Greensboro its eighth win of the season and second victory in three games.
Greensboro and Erie each play their final games on Friday, Jan. 20. The BayHawks take on the Westchester Knicks at 10 a.m. ET while the Swarm face off against the Delaware 87ers at 3 p.m. ET on ESPNU.
