
Energy Run out of Time, Fall to Bighorns

Des Moines, Iowa- The Iowa Energy's (8-26) 10-3 run in the final 2:52 of play wasn't enough Monday night, falling 104-100 to the Reno Bighorns (12-22) at Wells Fargo Arena.
Down by as many as 17 points in the first half, Iowa outscored Reno 58-49 in the final two quarters, including a 14-4 run to begin the fourth quarter to tie the game at 80-80. The two teams traded runs in the final 10 minutes, but the clock ran out before the Energy could complete their comeback bid.
Wayne Selden Jr. finished as the team's leading scorer, contributing 18 points (four three-pointers) and six assists.
Cartier Martin chipped in 15 points for Iowa. Martin has now tallied 15 or more points in 10 of his last 12 outings.
Terry Whisnant scored 12 of his 14 points from long range, cashing in four-of-10 three-point attempts. The East Carolina alum also grabbed five rebounds from the guard position.
As a team, Iowa held the advantage over Reno on the boards 52-41 and second chance points 24-11.
JaKarr Sampson (11) and Quinton Chievous (10) rounded out the team in double figures. Chievous shot an efficient 4-of-5 from the field and added six rebounds in 14 minutes of action.
The Energy finish their short week with a one-game road trip to Sioux Falls Tuesday evening before taking time off for the All-Star break.
Iowa returns home following their break on Thursday, Feb. 23 against Marcus Paige and the Salt Lake City Stars.
