
Energy Let Lead Slip Away, Fall to Spurs

Des Moines, Iowa- The Iowa Energy couldn't hold on to their seven-point halftime lead Thursday evening, falling to the Austin Spurs 100 - 96.
The Energy got off to a quick start in the first quarter, outscoring the Spurs 33-17. Terry Whisnant scored 14 first quarter points for Iowa, shooting 4 of 4 from deep.
Iowa went into the locker room with a 55-48 halftime lead.
The wheels fell off in the third for the Energy, as the team shot just 2 of 14 from the field and were outscored 28-8 during the period.
A late fourth quarter rally brought the game within four with under a minute remaining, but free throws sealed the game for Austin, hitting seven of their last eight attempts.
Kalin Lucas finished with 21 points on 7 of 11 shooting from the field. The guard also chipped in seven rebounds and five assists.
JaKarr Sampson provided a spark off the bench, recording a near season-high of 22 points to go along with eight rebounds.
Matt Costello finished with his eighth double-double of the season before fouling out late in the game. The Michigan State alum recorded 10 points and 10 boards in 31 minutes of action.
Making his home debut with the Energy, Wade Baldwin IV started in place of an injured Wayne Selden Jr. The recently re-assigned rookie from Vanderbilt finished with 13 points, three rebounds and two assists.
Whisnant finished with a season-high 16 points off the bench in the loss.
Cory Jefferson led the way offensively for the Spurs, recording 23 points and 10 rebounds. The forward also showed a soft touch out on the perimeter, making 2 of 3 from deep.
The Iowa Energy look to rebound tomorrow night against Reno Bighorns at 7:00 p.m. The two squared off just a week ago in Reno, where the Bighorns won 115-99.
