Texas Legends News Release

FRISCO, TX, - Texas Legends guard Donald Sloan and forward Jameel Warney have earned a Mariloff Call-Up to Team USA for the November FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 Americas Qualifiers. Warney is one of four members returning from the AmeriCup gold medal team earlier this year.

Sloan (6-3, 205, Texas A&M) has played three games for the Legends this season averaging 19.0 points, 4.3 rebounds, 4.3 assists, and 1.7 steals in 29.2 minutes per game.

Warney joined Team USA this summer for the FIBA AmeriCup where he led the team to a gold medal and earned MVP. In three games with the Legends this season, Warney has tallied two double-doubles and averages 15.0 points, 10.0 rebounds, and 3.3 assists.

"I am happy and proud that both Donald and Jameel have been selected to represent our great country on Team USA," said Legends Head Coach Bob MacKinnon. "It is a testament to both players and the Legends organization that we had multiple players picked for this prestigious team."

Former NBA head coach Jeff Van Gundy, who led the USA to a 5-0 record and the gold medal at the Aug. 25-Sept. 3 FIBA AmeriCup Championship, will serve as head coach of the USA Basketball Men's World Cup Qualifying Team, while veteran international coach Mo McHone and former Georgetown University coach John Thompson III will serve as assistant coaches.

The USA will open training Nov. 17 in Greensboro, N.C., and will play two first-round games, versus Puerto Rico on Nov. 23 (7:30 p.m. EST) at the University of Central Florida's CFE Arena in Orlando, and on Nov. 26 (5 p.m. EST) versus Mexico at the Greensboro Coliseum Complex Fieldhouse in Greensboro, home of the Charlotte Hornets NBA G League affiliate Greensboro Swarm.

The USA will train daily Nov. 17-20 at the Greensboro Coliseum Complex Fieldhouse. The American squad will continue its training on Nov. 21 at the Charlotte Hornets practice facility; then train on Nov. 22 at the University of Central Florida in Orlando. Following the Nov. 23 game against Puerto Rico, the USA returns to Greensboro for training on Nov. 24 and 25 and will close the November qualifying window with a game versus Mexico on Nov. 26 at the Greensboro Coliseum Complex Fieldhouse.

Following the November games, additional first-round World Cup Qualifying game windows are Feb. 22-26, 2018 and June 28-July 2, 2018.
