Cleveland Charge News Release

CANTON - The Canton Charge (12-18), powered by the Cleveland Cavaliers, overcame a 21 point fourth quarter deficit to defeat the Lakeland Magic (15-14), 103-97, on Friday night at the Canton Memorial Civic Center.

Canton struggled from the field in the early going, shooting 39% from the field in the first half, including 18% from three point distance (3-of-17). Lakeland's defense forced 11 first half turnovers, resulting in 19 points for the visitors. Trailing by 17 with 39.7 remaining in the half, a London Perrantes floater spurred an 8-0 run to close out the quarter, cutting Lakeland's lead to 50-41 entering the break. Magic guard Rodney Purvis scored 15 points in the first-half on 6-of-10 shooting.

The Magic continued to control the game throughout the third quarter and pushed their lead to as many as 21 with 8:32 remaining in the fourth on a Purvis three pointer. The Charge answered with numerous stops and outside shooting from John Holland and Portland Trail Blazers' assignee Caleb Swanigan. Holland scored 13 points in the fourth, with his game-tying three pointer with 3.9 seconds remaining sending the game into overtime, all even at 97 apiece.

Charge forward JaCorey Williams forced a steal from Purvis with 1:43 remaining in OT and scored the extra period's only bucket on fellow starter London Perrantes' 15th assist of the night. Lakeland would miss all four shots taken in OT and the Charge went on to seal it at the free throw line on a pair of foul shots from Williams.

Holland scored a team-high 21 points in 37 minutes. Perrantes recorded his fourth double-double of the season, scoring 16 points and dishing 15 assists. Swanigan posted his team-leading ninth double-double of the season with 18 points and 13 rebounds on 7-of-11 shooting from the field. JaCorey Williams provided 18 points and eight rebounds. Marcus Thornton came off the bench for just the fourth time this season and netted 15 points in 33 minutes of relief.

Orlando Magic two-way player Adreian Payne posted a double-double with 21 points and 18 rebounds in 33 minutes for the Magic. Purvis matched Payne's total with 21 points of his own on 8-of-18 shooting in 43 minutes. Jamel Artis added 14 points and seven boards in 42 minutes. Signed on January 25th, Ohio University product Antonio Campbell was in attendance but did not play.

The Canton Charge are part of the Cleveland Cavaliers and Quicken Loans Arena organization and are also owned by a group led by Cavaliers Chairman and Quicken Loans Founder and Chairman Dan Gilbert. The group also owns and operates the Cleveland Gladiators of the Arena Football League and the Cleveland Monsters of the American Hockey League, both of which play their games at Quicken Loans Arena in downtown Cleveland.
