December 1, 2012 - Western Hockey League (WHL) - Red Deer Rebels News Release

A big night at the Enmax Centrium as Adam Kambeitz made his return for the first time since being dealt to Saskatoon for Christiak Stockl. It was also the annual Toque Toss night in support of the Red Deer Christmas Bureau.

FIRST PERIOD

Fans did not have to wait long to toss their toques on to the ice as the Rebels opened the scoring at the 4:01 mark. Kayle Doetzel fired from the slot, Conner Bleackley tipped it past Blades goalie Andrey Makarov for his seventh goal of the season. Cory Millette earned the second assist on the goal. 1-0 Rebels. Bleackley's hot streak continues as this was his fifth goal in his last six games.

Patrik Bartosak was solid between the Rebels pipes early on. His best save being a breakaway stop off of Josh Nicholls. The matchup of potential World Junior goalies was a good one early as Makarok was equally as impressive for the Blades throughout the rest of the opening period.

The Rebels would still find the back of the Blades net before the end of the period. Tyson Ness slid home a spin-o-rama backhander past Makarov for his eighth of the year. It capped off a pretty tic tac toe passing play with Joel Hamilton and Matt Bellerive. The goal, which came at the 19:15 mark, made it 2-0 Rebels after one period of play. Red Deer outshot Saskatoon 13-9 in the stanza.

SECOND PERIOD

After neither side found themselves with a powerplay in the first frame, both teams would see some powerplay time early in the second. The Rebels were unable to capitalize on a pair of Blades minor penalties while Saskatoon also went scoreless on their first powerplay.

No scoring in the second period, Rebels outshot the Blades 15-8 in the period.

THIRD PERIOD

For the second night in a row, the Rebels would score in the opening minute of the third period. For the second night in a row, it would be Turner Elson scoring the goal. Elson gathered up a rebound from Mathew Dumba's point shot then beat Makarov with a wraparound. The captain nets his ninth goal of the season. Brooks Maxwell also earned an assist on the goal. 3-0 Rebels just 27 seconds into the final frame.

The home team would finish the task after that. Bartosak stood his ground to keep the Blades off of the scoreboard. 3-0 would be the final score. The Rebels win their seventh straight game while also extending their home ice winning streak to eight.
