Warriors Fall Short to Idaho

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - The NBA D-League Champion Santa Cruz Warriors (8-5) were defeated by the Idaho Stampede (5-11) 117-107 on Saturday at Kaiser Permanente Arena.

Elliot Williams scored a Santa Cruz all-time regular season high of 40 points, marking his seventh 30+ point game this season. Verdell Jones III recorded 25 points and 7 assists, while Darington Hobson added 20 points, 9 assists, and 8 rebounds.

Tyus Jones, on assignment from the Minnesota Timberwolves, paced the Stampede with 30 points, 5 assists, and 5 rebounds. Jeff Ayres notched a double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds, while Brandon Fields added 17 points.

The first quarter was a closely contested battle that saw five lead changes and seven ties with Idaho leading by 4 points heading into the second frame. The Stampede would never relinquish their advantage in the second quarter, entering the locker room leading 60-47.

Santa Cruz came out of the break on a 10-1 run to cut the Idaho lead to four points. The Stampede would remain in control of the advantage until Santa Cruz went on a 7-0 run to tie the game at 72-72 with 3:10 remaining in the quarter. Despite Elliot Williams scoring 15 points in the quarter, Idaho closed out the frame with a three-point lead.

The fourth quarter would see Idaho dominate the scoreboard, leading by as many as 15 points. The Stampede ended the night with the 117-107 win over the Warriors.
