Cleveland Charge News Release

The Canton Charge (2-3), presented by SecureData 365 and powered by the Cleveland Cavaliers, defeated the Bakersfield Jam (2-5), 100-98 for their second straight win on Saturday night. Saturday night's contest marked the 100th regular season home game in Canton Charge history.

In their only matchup of the season, the Charge and Jam exchanged blows in a physical first quarter of play. Charge guard Quinn Cook picked up right where he left off Wednesday night against Fort Wayne, pacing the hot shooting Wine and Gold with 10 first quarter points against the Jam. In the first period, the Charge shot 50% from the field on 10-of-20 shooting. Bakersfield Jam forward Earl Clark answered Cook's 10 with 10 of his own, while adding five rebounds in the first 12 minutes. After trailing by as many as five, a Cook three pointer with 1.7 seconds remaining in the quarter put the Charge up 26-22 heading into the second.

Down as many as 11 in the second, the Jam picked up the defensive intensity, holding Canton to 15 second quarter points on 23% shooting. A 9-0 run in the Jam's favor put the visitors within two before a Michael Dunigan free throw stopped the run. Reserve guard Xavier Munford provided a spark for the Jam, tallying eight points in the period. An Earl Clark hook shot with 43 seconds remaining tied the game at 40, before Dunigan split a pair of free throws heading into the half with the Charge leading 41-40.

Coming out of the break, both teams fought for control of the game, exchanging the lead 10 times in the third quarter. Dunigan and Cook continued to shoulder the load for the hosts, combining for 17 points on 7-of-9 shooting from the field. With the Charge leading 66-65 with 1:54 remaining, Charge guard JerShon Cobb hit two threes, preceded by a blocked shot on Bakersfield's Xavier Munford as the quarter closed to help give the Charge a 74-67 lead entering the fourth.

The Charge put the ball in the hands of Cook to help finish off the Jam in the fourth quarter. Cook added to his tally with eight fourth quarter points, including 2-for-2 from distance. Dunigan continued his strong play with five points of his own in the fourth to help stave off a valiant comeback effort by the Jam. A contested three pointer from Bakersfield's Terrico White sailed wide of the rim at the buzzer and the Charge held on for a hard-fought win, 100-98.

The formidable duo of Quinn Cook and Michael Dunigan impressed for the second straight game. Cook finished with a game-high 27 points on 10-of-17 shooting, while adding five rebounds and three assists in 39 minutes. Dunigan added 22 points on 8-of-10 shooting, bringing in seven rebounds and dishing two assists in 34 workman-like minutes. Joe Harris, on assignment from the Cavaliers, poured in 16 points while nabbing five rebounds in 34 minutes of action. The Charge shot 46% from the field, assisting on 21 of their 35 field goals.

Bakersfield was led by Earl Clark's 24 points and nine rebounds in 39 minutes. Xavier Munford provided 20 points off the bench for the Jam. C.J. Wilcox, on assignment from the Los Angeles Clippers, had 18 points on an efficient 7-of-11 from the field.
