DALLAS - The Dallas Mavericks announced today that they have assigned guard Justin Anderson and center Salah Mejri to the Texas Legends of the NBA Development League.
Anderson (6-6, 228) is averaging 3.2 points, 1.3 rebounds and 7.4 minutes in 10 games (one start) for Dallas this season. The rookie guard scored a career-high 11 points (4-4 FGs, 1-1 3FGs, 2-2 FTs) in 15 minutes at New Orleans on Nov. 10.
The Mavericks selected Anderson with the 21st overall pick of the 2015 NBA Draft. Anderson played three years at Virginia, leading the Cavaliers to two Atlantic Coast Conference regular season titles and just the second ACC Tournament Championship in school history. As a junior, he averaged 12.2 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.7 assists while shooting 46.6 percent from the field, 45.2 percent from beyond the arc and 78 percent from the foul line.
Mejri (7-2, 235) has seen action in five games for the Mavericks this year and is averaging 1.0 rebound in 3.9 minutes per game.
Mejri signed with Dallas as a rookie free agent on July 30. He became the first player of Tunisian decent to sign with an NBA team. Mejri played in 34 games with Real Madrid last season and averaged 4.3 points and 2.1 rebounds in 8.6 minutes on the way to winning the Spanish League title. He increased those averages to 5.0 points, 2.6 rebounds and 10.3 minutes in eight Euroleague games as Real Madrid went on to also capture the Euroleague Championship with a win over Greek-power Olympiacos in the final game.
Anderson and Mejri will join the Legends and be available for Saturday's game when they take on the Oklahoma City Blue at 7 p.m. CT at Dr Pepper Arena in Frisco.
