Westchester Knicks News Release
WHITE PLAINS - The Westchester Knicks (3-0), the official NBA Development League affiliate of the New York Knickerbockers, took down the Sioux Falls Skyforce (0-2) in a contest that saw 11 lead changes and 10 ties, the final score 107-94.
It was all about the defense in the first 12 minutes. Westchester's Darion Atkins, getting the start for the first time this season, racked up six quick rebounds in the first seven minutes alone. Trading leads a few times, both teams struggled to find their shots, the Knicks barely outshooting the Skyforce 40.0 percent to 31.3 percent. With a basket at the buzzer, Travis Trice II pushed Westchester ahead 23-11 with the lead after the first quarter.
The Skyforce took off in the second quarter, hitting an impressive 14-of-17 shots and taking as much as a 12-point lead. Westchester tied it up four times but was never able to regain the lead. Giving Sioux Falls 16 points in turnovers, the Knicks headed into the locker room trailing 54-45.
The Knicks saw another second half redemption as they chipped away at the Sioux Falls' lead in the third, going on a number of quick runs to tie it up halfway through the quarter. The two teams traded the lead five times and wound up in a tie heading into the fourth.
Sioux Falls racked up fouls in the fourth, going well over the six foul limit. Both teams flirting with the lead for the first few minutes, Westchester took off after an 82-82 tie with 8:36 on the clock and never looked back. While it was mostly smooth sailing, the Knicks holding on to win 107-94, Westchester lost one of its leading scorers in DaJuan Summers, who left the game with less than two minutes after taking a tumble on the court.
Sean Marshall led the way for Westchester, notching a game-high 20 points, adding six rebounds and four assists. Six Knicks finished in double figures, including 16 off the bench from Jordon Crawford, 15 from Travis Trice II. Despite the injury, Summers recorded a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds, also snatching four steals. Darion Atkins finished with 12 rebounds, seven of which were offensive.
Tre Kelly steered the Skyforce with 19 points and five assists. From the bench, Byron Mullens added 17 points and seven rebounds, while DeAndre Liggins contributed 14 points, eight rebounds, and six assists.
The Westchester Knicks travel to Canton, Ohio for the first road game of the season tomorrow, Nov. 21 for a 7:00 p.m. match-up against the Canton Charge. The game will be broadcast live on MSG 2 and YouTube.
