
RedHawk fall to Goldeyes

FARGO, ND "" The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks came from behind in the late innings to take a lead, but squandered it in the ninth and fell to the Winnipeg Goldeyes 7-3 in front of an electric crowd of 4,060 fans on Saturday night at Newman Outdoor Field.
Taylor Stanton started on the mound for the RedHawks. The right-hander gave up two in the second but was lights out after that. He went the next five innings without giving up a run and only allowed four hits in that span. He took the no-decision, going seven innings, allowing two runs (both earned) on seven hits with two walks and three strikeouts.
The RedHawks were playing catch-up all game. Trailing 2-0 heading into the sixth, Zach Penprase scored on an RBI double from Joe Staley that just landed fair down the line in left field cutting the deficit to 2-1.
Fargo-Moorhead grabbed the lead in the seventh. Drew Muren lead off with a single and Charlie Valerio reached on a walk. Zach Penprase would drive in Muren on an infield single and Valerio scored on a Chad Mozingo single giving Fargo-Moorhead a 3-2 advantage.
Evan Englebrook came on in the eighth making his debut and was solid. The 6'8" 260 pound hurler came on and retired the side giving way to Mike Nesseth.in the ninth.
The ninth is where the wheels fell off. The RedHawks committed three errors leading to five runs for the Goldeyes in the top half of the ninth. Both Frank Salerno and Joe Bonfe lost balls midflight in the glaring sunlight peeking in from the left-field side. Zach Penprase also committed an error leading to another run. Winnipeg scored five runs on two hits pushing the lead to 7-3 and putting the game out of reach.
Goldeye's starter Rob Nixon took the no-decision while Brendan Lafferty earned the win in relief while Mike Nesseth took the loss in the ninth. Fargo-Moorhead drops to 8-21 while Winnipeg improves to 12-15. The two teams finish up the three-game set tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. Mike Mason will take the mound for Fargo-Moorhead.
