Timbers square off against defending MLS Cup-champion LA Galaxy Sunday at Providence Park

PORTLAND, Ore. - Following a hard-fought, scoreless draw against Real Salt Lake to open the 2015 season presented by Simple, the Portland Timbers play host to defending MLS Cup-champion LA Galaxy at Providence Park on Sunday at 4 p.m. (Pacific). The match, presented by JELD-WEN Windows & Doors, will be broadcast live nationally on FOX Sports 1 with local radio broadcasts on 750/102.9 The Game (KXTG) and in Spanish on La GranD 1150 AM (KGDD).

Portland (0-0-1, 1pt) enters the match with a Timbers MLS-club-record streak of 394 minutes without conceding a goal, dating back to the final three matches of the 2014 regular-season schedule. Including 2014, the Timbers have registered four straight shutouts, finishing last season with clean sheets against San Jose (Oct. 8), Real Salt Lake (Oct. 17) and on the road at FC Dallas (Oct. 25) before recording a shutout in a scoreless draw against Real Salt Lake in the 2015 season opener on March 7. The Timbers haven't conceded a goal at Providence Park in MLS regular-season play since Sept. 7, 2014, a span of 365 consecutive minutes.

In the opener of the 2015 season presented by Simple, the Timbers attempted 18 shots, including six on goal, in a shutout against Real Salt Lake on March 7. Portland extended its unbeaten streak in home-opening matches to five games (2-0-3) since 2011.

The Timbers are unbeaten in three straight home games against the LA Galaxy in regular-season play, including two wins and a draw since July 13, 2013. Despite a 3-1 defeat in their most recent meeting at the StubHub Center in Carson, Calif., on Aug. 2, 2014, Portland has conceded defeat to the Galaxy just once in the last six regular-season matches between the two teams.

The Galaxy (1-0-0, 3pts) enter Sunday's match following a season-opening, 2-0 win over the Chicago Fire on March 6 at the StubHub Center. Forwards Jose Villarreal and Robbie Keane both tallied goals in the second half as the 2014 MLS Cup champions opened their title defense with a clean sheet.

Following Sunday's match, the Timbers take to the road for the first time in 2015, traveling to face Sporting Kansas City on Saturday, March 21, at Sporting Park in Kansas City, Kan.; kickoff is set for 5:30 p.m. (Pacific). Timbers, Stand Together announce 'Fields For All' partnership with Operation Pitch Invasion

The Timbers have formed a partnership with Operation Pitch Invasion (OPI) on a field-building project, Fields For All. The partnership is a collaboration between OPI and the Timbers' Stand Together community initiative with sponsors adidas, JELD-WEN Windows & Doors, KeyBank, Providence Health & Services and Ross Electric joining to help build youth soccer fields and futsal courts each year in the greater Portland area.

Fields For All aims to identify "recreation deserts" - that is, communities underserved by recreational activities for kids - and fill them with safe, healthy and high-quality playing surfaces. Its work will focus on areas with open community access and neighborhood support. In addition, the project will target locations in close proximity to schools, youth clubs and recreation centers, providing ongoing programming to support organized and structured play for local area youth.

Kicking off the first of two Fields For All projects is Snake Field at Vance Park in Gresham's Rockwood neighborhood in 2015. Slated for construction in 2016, King's Court at King Elementary School is set to be the second of Fields For All's first two projects.
